About The City:
Nicknamed "The Hub of Centry Oregon" he city of Redmond, Oregon has been the center of activity in central Oregon for a century dating back to 1910. In 2010 the city celebrated its 100th year anniversary with the Redmond's Centennial. The year long celebration featured festivals, special events, and community projects. Located on a high desert plateau with approximately 10,000 acres, it has an elevation of 3,077 feet above sea level is just east of the Cascade Mountain Range and 144 miles north from Portland. The city operates the regions only commercial airline service airport, Roberts Field, and has a commercial airport Redmond Airport which is the largest employer in the city. Remond is considered a progressive full-service municipality. The population is approximately 25,000 residents with an annual growth rate of approximately 8% per annum.

Economy:
The economy is a mixture of service and manufacturing. The largest employer of the city is the Redmond Air Center located at Redmond Airport. Several national cell phone companies have offices at the city . The oldest continous operating business is the Redmond Spokesman newspaper.
Things To Do:
The surrounding area has a rich desert ecosystem with a number of Juniper trees with its extracts used in popular bath and body soaps along with the Sagebrush. The Smith Rock State Park has a number of nice sheer cliffs made of tuff and basalt which are great for rock climbing for any skill level. You can take a number of hikes such as following the Crooked River and viewing Oregon's Cascade Mountain Range. Smith Rock is world famous as the birthplace of modern American sport climbing. The Redmond Caves are at the central heart of the Horse Lava Tube System which were created by lava flow about 80,000 years ago.
